Draw which insulin first

Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so. The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

Unopened bottles of insulin should be refrigerated until needed and may be used until the printed expiration date on the label.

Insulin should never be frozen. Remove the insulin from the refrigerator and allow it to reach room temperature before injecting it. An insulin bottle in use may be kept at room temperature for up to 1 month. Insulin that has been kept at room temperature for longer than a month should be thrown away.

Storing prefilled syringes in the refrigerator with the needle pointed up reduces problems that can occur, such as crystals forming in the needle and blocking it up.

Mixtures of insulin can sometimes be combined in the same syringe, for example, intermediate-acting and rapid- or short-acting insulin. Not all insulins can be mixed together. What is the difference between NPH and regular insulin? Insulin NPH is an intermediate-acting insulin and regular insulin is a short-acting insulin; the combination product is not intended for initial therapy; basal insulin requirements should be established first to direct dosing of the combination insulin products.
