Main Quest. The replayability come sin from the fact that even if you do get the same map, your starting point, the alien starting point and the make up of the alien invaders is randomized. Not exactly. There are static maps in the game many of them, though, so don't worry , but enemy placement is always random.
It will take quite a while before you see a repeat map, though. Ok thank you guys, I don't really know indeed if in xcom 1 original it was really random, or was it just many maps in a pool and I was just not able to recognize them all Xcom the original did indeed have random maps, is why so many of them made no sense half the time.
The trouble comes in in this age most games are using 3d modelled environments that requires decent AI pathing to work right. This kinda thing can't be created easily on the fly. XCom the original was 2d tilesets. Though IMHO, the layout of these random maps as a rule sucked.
